About Me

I am Stefan Stalker, a second-year Media and Journalism student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I value storytelling through a journalistic lens by providing audiences with impartial and relevant information, which I believe is crucial in delivering the most palpable narratives. I work as a writer for the city and state desk at The Daily Tar Heel, covering many topics surrounding the community, from election season to live music events. As a writer and reporter, placing unheard voices and stories on a pedestal are goals of mine every time I craft a story.

I love music— and writing about it. Growing up as a figure skater, I would spend hours per practice session listening to a piece, trying to emote every beat, mimic every crash, crescendo, or pause and precisely move my body to the timbre of the rhythm. Music has the power to inflict such emotion and power, and using storytelling to advance and propel artists’ visions brings me joy. When writing about music or a performance, I seek out the artist’s interests, inspirations, and skills to portray the most accurate review of their passion and include a deep analysis of their craft.

Sample Works

In journalism, I work to highlight local voices, provide critical perspectives, and share community.
